Hating Muslims is a bipartisan affair.  →
iwasborninthesuburbs: The NYPD has been illegally tracking, surveilling, and harassing Americans, simply because they are Muslim. Glenn Greenwald explains: The NYPD spying program exposed by Associated Press may be the most flagrant instance in the War on Terror where “being Muslim” is overtly equated by a government agency to being a Terror threat. It is beyond question that huge numbers ...

talking about Muslim women in class
Tutor: French government did an amazing thing for Muslim women when they banned the Burqa
Me: Don't you think it took away some women's choice though?
Tutor: No if anything they were freed from their oppression. Nobody deserves to be covered up for religious reasons or because your husband says so
Me: I agree. I'm just saying not every woman who wears a burqa is oppressed. some wear it for personal reasons that has nothing to do with the what u mentioned
Classmate: how can they even see through it? they can't drive with one on! besides France banned all types of religious clothing worn in school.
Me: I kinda feel they were mainly after Muslim religion but they didn't want to look racist or against a particular religion so they banned all of them.
Tutor: So you believe that Muslim women should be oppressed? That is like saying you agree with female genital mutilation. both things oppresses women
Me: ...what?
Tutor: Did you know that some muslim women are murdered by their own brothers for daring to go on a date? it's barbaric!
Classmate 2: Why are muslim people so violent and like killing?
Tutor: no that's a stereotype about muslims which France has successfully removed from the country. Im not saying there aren't problems with the way France handles things sometimes, but this time, they did the right thing and a poll showed that 90% of Muslim french women agreed with the ban
Me: That's fine but it's a bit unfair to ban an item of clothing when not all Muslim women are oppressed by it. you assume that when a woman wears one, she's automatically oppressed.
Classmate 1: of course she is! nobody wears a burqa because they WANT to. they look ridiculous. let them wear it at home, but not in public. it's about equality here.
Me: ironically that's not how it sounds like... France is hiding it's prejudice of muslim people through this. they aren't trying to make all people equal and more understanding of other's religions and cultures. or else they wouldn't ban a piece of 'clothing'. it's unfair to force a group of French peole into a certain western way to be a citizen just because they happen to be a muslim woman. besides, banning something about women si not equality, it's sexist.
Tutor: This is a great step for muslim community in France and it's a shame you believe muslim women should be oppressed.
Me: that's not what I said at all...
outright say that your bitch professor is racist and then later don't refrain from telling him that he totally had it coming
The tutor says that it's oppressive to tell women what to wear, but if they choose to wear the Burqa and you take away their right to do so, you are the one that is being oppressive. LET THEM WEAR WHAT THEY WANT! Also, "they look ridiculous", no they don't.

shortformblog: A military official says Muslim holy books that were burned in a pile of garbage at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan had been removed from a library at a nearby detention center because they contained extremist messages or inscriptions. A military official with knowledge of the incident told The Associated Press on Tuesday that it appeared the Qurans and other Islamic...
